Many of our nation's social, political and economic problems can be traced to the conflict between unlimited desires for higher standards of living and scarce resources. Economics is the study of how society manages its limited resources and thus resolves this conflict.

A knowledge of Economics is important not only for economists but also for careers in business, government and the professions. Because Economics can serve people as the foundation for a variety of career opportunities. A strong grounding in both theoretical and applied aspects of economics allows people to use their knowledge to understand economic behavior and to make better decisions under conditions of uncertainty and incomplete information.

The Department of Economics and Finance offers a major with a Economics option and one with a Finance option. The Finance option is designed primarily for students planning to pursue professional careers in bank and other financial institutions.
