English as a Second Language (ESL) is
an educational program geared towards students without a solid
basis in English knowledge. The program focuses on combining
the four skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing)
necessary for students to fully grasp the English language.
In 1995, the University of Suwon made four semesters of English
language a prerequisite for graduation. The school has improved
the ESL programs by inviting native English-speaking lecturers

foreign countries in order to enhance students' communicative
skills. Now,students have the opportunity to converse with
English-native lecturers who have a certificate in TESOL/TEFL
with previous experiences in teaching ESL classes, or have
majored in English. Accordingly students can learn more about
English through frequent use and practice. Furthermore, the
recently adopted integrated teaching technique allows professors
to promote teaching of English more systematically and effectively
in classrooms. It enables the ESL education to attain maximum
efficiency. In addition, classes are arranged from beginning
to advanced levels, which give students a chance to learn
English at a pace suiced to their knowledge and skill.
